Shadows

"The shadows will always follow us"

ARTIST STATEMENT

This image took some prep work. I got this idea from other pictures I've seen, like the ones we were showed in class. I was trying to think of which word I wanted to use, I bounced around between Family, Joy, Friends, and thought that Home would be the easiest to make out of the materials I had. On the theme of "home" I wanted to make the words out of materials that were big parts of my childhood and growing up. This is why I decided to use the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books, sparklers have always been so much fun at my house, duct tape that has fixed countless things I may or may not have broken, school yearbooks from middle school to make up the "M" and finally Sunday River for the "E" because I love skiing and that mountain has ben a big part of my life growing up.

To get the right angle and light I asked my mom to stand about halfway down the stairs and hold a lamp for me. She was very patient while I asked her to move it up and down especially when she couldn't see anything but stairs. The most difficult part was probably the setup and getting a picture to where my body was out of the image, reducing my clone stamping workload. I adjusted the color a little bit to make the image darker and the shadows to pop more, and I had to clone stamp and outlet out to not distract the viewer from the picture.
