WRITTEN REFLECTION

If you look back and forth between my photographs from Photography 1 and Photography 2 you will see many changes. It doesn't help that when I transferred websites, my Photo 1 pictures all lost quality and look blurry, but there is great difference in quality and composition. I was looking back at them earlier today and noticed that almost all of my pictures were shot from straight on angles; straight up, straight down, or pointing directly at. Since then I have developed a sense of angle. I now utilize rule of thirds, angle up, angle down, and portraying the image in an interesting way. For example: in my picture of the train tracks I got into a low crouch and almost placed the camera on the track to get the whole length to where it grew smaller the farther away it got. My "Home" picture where I took a down and to the left shot.

The most challenging again was the printing process in the dark room. It became world's easier and faster when we didn't have to use film cameras and transparency paper instead. I still had problems with deadlines and thus taking time away from the darkroom. I ended up with a lot of gray pictures with poor ranges of values. On my website most of my prints look black because of the scanner so that's just unfortunate. Like I said I also had a big problem with deadlines. I had a period of about 3 weeks where all my work was turned in late, which wasn't a problem the the grade of the print, but was when they weren't in the critique or on Artsonia.

I'm most proud of my improvement in my overall images. I made a lot of improvements in the composition and quality of my work and I'm very proud of that. I'm especially proud of trying the steel wool photography because that did and still does blow my mind. I also had some fun with photoshop when it didn't have to be part of the project like in my reflection and movement images.

Well I think it's been shown I can follow simple direction pretty well. I've shown that I can take past knowledge and use it to make a photo better, like when using photoshop as extra in my reflection image. Or in some of my other pictures when I used creative angles to make a picture better. Since Photo 1, when I get ready to take a picture I always think of composition techniques I can use to make the image better. My creativity and drive to try knew things is shown in all of my steel wool pictures. Just looking at the quality of my images it illustrates my strengths as a learner.
