Photographic Intent

"Open Sea"

ARTIST STATEMENT

For photographic intent I choose rule of thirds with a dark and gloomy feel. It was very rainy yesterday so it was a perfect portrayal of "gloomy." I was down at the South Freeport Marina so I thought the ocean would e the best place with all of the open space and general look of the water. For the rule of thirds part of it I used the cleat at the end of the dock. I liked the lack of boats in the water or really any activity at all, it helped with the desolate look of the ocean.

Obviously this image has strong rule of thirds. I would also say it has medium horizon line which could then be argued either high or low. Trying to follow the prompt, I made the image black & white to add to its dreariness and I honestly couldn't tell if it was or not because of how bland it was. I made the cleat out of focus to give it a soft look and break up the sharp focus.

I don't what I would do to make this better because I think it really nails the prompt. I actually think it would look good with a single boat in the center of the image contrary to what I said earlier, but that much is really out of my control. This image connects to me because just like most people, I have these dark dreary days. Days where nothing seems to be going right.
