About Me

My name is Griffin Agnese. I am an only child who was born in Portland Maine. I live in an English speaking home and in 5 years I hope to be graduating or close to graduating college. I'm not sure exactly what I plan to do for a career in life, but I hope to figure that out soon. Other than art teachers I've had in the past, I cannot think of anyone else who has or is going to college for art at the moment. Over the course of my life I've had a lot of small moments that I'm proud of such as school assignments or performances on the sports field, but no major memorable achievements. In my free time I like being active. Whether that involves sports or hiking or anything being outside. I enrolled in photography because I like taking pictures. I needed an art credit but why would I take some random art class I'm not going to enjoy? I'd much rather learn more about a subject I already enjoy so that I can enjoy it more. At this very moment I'm interested in Chip Hooper who I recently researched for a project in this class. I became more and more interested in his work after having so much trouble with black and white photography and how he did it so well. I don't have a specific job I definitely want to do, but I'm hoping it has something do do with the outdoors. Three adjectives others would use to describe me might be friendly, caring, and adventurous.

Ansel Adams, Two Men on a Porch, 1934. I really enjoyed candid pictures. This image shows two men living their daily lives without paying any attention to the camera at all.

Ansel Adams, Storm Surf, 1960. I think that this image is very eye catching. At first it can be hard to tell how so, but I like how in this image you can see the natural order of things and the way the ocean hits the rocks. Nothing man made in the picture.

Ansel Adams, Winter Sunrise, 1944 In this image I really like how only half of it can really be seen. The time at which Ansel Adams captured this image show the differing peaks in the mountain very well and I think it adds to the image's depth very well to shows the power and extent of the mountain.

Vladimir Rys, 24h Le Mans, 2015 Vladimir Rys is the photographer I researched for our digital photography unit and I came to be pretty fond of his work. He is a very modern photographer who takes amazing pictures. He really enjoys Formula One racing and takes a lot of pictures at those races. As I've said before I like candid pictures a lot. This image really shows the focus of the racer and is semi covered by his helmet shield which adds a little bit of mystery to the image. I think the informal balance adds a good angle to the image that you wouldn't get if viewing it straight on.

Vladimir Rys, Erasmia Kids I like how this image is again candid. Candid pictures really get the personalities of people because they aren't thinking about the picture, they aren't posing, they're just being themselves. In this case the kids are playing soccer while the sun was I think setting in the background. I like how much black & white shows detail like in this image. It gives great contrast and wouldn't look as good if in color.
