"Comin' atcha"

ARTIST STATEMENT

This is the most impromptu picture I've ever taken. For this class anyway. We were at states for skiing and my subject had just finished his run and was taking off his skis. I already had my camera out and on sport mode so I made a comment he wasn't the most pleased with and just started shooting. i got about 10 images of the process of him throwing the pole at me, or trying at least. The top one was my favorite because most of the pole is still in the frame. i think the colors in this image work really well together and the selective focus is very strong. If you look at his goggles you will see a great reflection of the sky in them and how the yellow tint changes the overcast day to looking very bright and sunny. He is a small bit out of them center of the picture but not too far off to the right, it's a very good sort of balance. You can see just enough of the ski hill behind to give a good background, but not so much that it's distracting. I really enhanced the colors for this image because as I said before I thought they worked really well together. I up-ed the contrast just a little bit so that his mittens and helmet didn't look so grey. Besides that I didn't feel as though anything needed to be cloned stamped out or incredible altered and this was the final product.
