Film: Relationships

"Life Cycle"

ARTIST STATEMENT

The original relationship in this image was between the seagull and the crab representing the animal kingdom and all relationships within it. "Where is the crab?" you might ask, exactly. After printing this image out I decided to make a case on the relationship being between the seagull and the sea itself. Unlike me, I really struck formal balance with this image, the seagull is almost smack dead in the middle of the image. I know I've mentioned it before, but during this time when I'm really looking deep into the image I've taken, I start to notice a lot more than I did when i took the picture. In this photograph it's the 5 different textures from the land to the wind blown water, to the calm water, then sand, and finally the slightly wavy water. I like how that turned out rather than just being blank open ocean in the back and foreground. If I had more time to work on this image I would need to start over to get rid of that chemical stain. I tried rinsing it again and using the squeegee to get it off, but that failed. I'm also staring to notice that I may not have fixed the print long enough because it's starting to turn blue around the boarder. Last, but not least it needs to be darker. It's one of my best so far, but I need a better range of values.
