"Lights of the City" (Inspired by Vladimir Rys)

ARTIST STATEMENT

The subject of my image are the prominently shown head and tail lights on the highway. I went into Portland with a friend and we stood on a bridge to take this picture. I edited it by enhancing the color and turning the brightness lower on the image to really make the colors pop. I choose to create this image because I am very interested in Vladimir Rys’ street photography and have been wanting to take a picture like this for awhile so I learned how and went to Portland to test my new skills.

A lot of this picture involved trial and error. I had to wait for a good amount of cars to come by and I also needed to find the right camera settings to make the image look appealing to the eyes. I had an idea on the settings that were needed, but had to adjust them a lot in the beginning due to the lights of the city.

I chose to create this image mostly because I had already planned to earlier and this project gave me an excuse to do it. This image relates to me because I really like taking photos like this, but haven’t gotten many chances yet. I’m pleased with how the image turned out as a whole, but I am bothered by the slight blurriness which is hard to fix after already having taken the image.
