Top 5 2024 NFL Mock Draft

WIth the 2024 Nfl draft right around the corner, you may be wanting to know what the draft will look like. While you are reading, you will learn all about the top 5 picks of the NFL draft and what teams they will most likely go to. (A mock draft is just a prediction of the draft

First Overall pick: Bears Select Caleb Williams.

The athlete most likely to be drafted first is Caleb Williams. Caleb Williams is A USC quarterback that won the Heisman Trophy last year. The Heisman trophy is like the MVP of college football. The Bears are most definitely looking for a QB in this draft year. Their current quarterback, Justin Fields, has just been traded to the Steelers, so the bears are without a doubt looking for a quarterback. Unfortunately, like many other quarterbacks at the combine, Caleb was not able to participate in most of the combine drills. The least we can hope is that Caleb WIlliams does not end up like the Bears past Heisman winner draft pick, Mitch Trubisky, a well known bust.

Second Overall Pick: Drake Maye goes to the Commanders.

The Commanders have a dilemma in this decision.  Do they take Drake Maye, a promising prospect, or do they trade up for Caleb Williams, the former Heisman Winner. The prospect that we will probably be seeing going number two in the draft is Drake Maye. Maye is a quarterback prodigy from the University of North Carolina. Drake Maye showed a stellar performance in the 2023 season, without such a stellar team, The North Carolina Tar Heels. Similar to the Bears, the Commanders are desperate for a new quarterback. Sam Howell, the former Commanders quarterback, was just traded to the Seahawks. WIth 3,946 passing yards last season, you may say that Sam Howell did pretty well for his caliber of quarterback. On the other hand though, Howell also threw 21 interceptions and matched that number with his 21 touchdowns. Having the same amount of touchdowns in a season as interceptions, is not a good thing. I can see why they traded him.

Third Overall pick: Jayden Daniels Goes to the Patriots

With the firing of legendary head coach Bill Belichick, the Patriots are looking for new beginnings. Most likely, the Patriots will select Jayden Daniels, the 2023 Heisman winner from LSU. Daniels had a spectacular college career finishing fifth in overall quarterback stats across the league. Also, similar to the Commanders and Bears, the patriots are looking for a new QB. Mac Jones, the former patriots quarterback, is also called by some people, a bust. For a fifteenth overall pick QB, he just has not done what is expected of him. And he got about what was expected, traded to the Jaguars for some late picks. Personally, I think the trade including Mac Jones was a pretty good choice for the Patriots. Jayden Daniels is definitely one of the most promising quarterbacks in the draft.

Fourth overall pick: Marvin Harrison Jr. Goes to the Cardinals.

Son of former Colts star Marvin Harrison, Marvin Harrison Jr. looks like a promising wide receiver. From the University of Ohio State,  Marvin Harrison finished 10th in overall wide receiver stats. This may sound bad, but he also led the top 10 in yards per reception. The Cardinals are already set in the quarterback position with the 26 year old Kyler Murray. A wide receiver is definitely something this roster needs. The only notable receiver on the Cardinals is Marquise Brown, also known as “Hollywood''. And guess what, he just got traded to the Chiefs. The only thing that is lacking in Harrison's arsenal, is his leadership and cooperation. In the NCAA, teams have what is called a bowl game. A bowl game really doesn't really matter unless you are in the playoffs. For example, the Rose bowl, Pop Tart bowl, Orange bowl, etc. are all bowl games. Harrison decided to sit out on this game to not risk getting injured. And this isn’t where it ends. Marvin Harrison also decided to not show up to the NFL Combine. While the Combine isn’t required, I guarantee he let down many fans by not showing up. If I was the Cardinals coach, I would take these factors into consideration.

Fifth Overall Pick: Rome Odunze To The Chargers.

The Los Angeles Chargers, unlike a lot of other teams, are completely comfortable with the quarterback position. This is why myself and other mock drafts think that the chargers will take Rome Odunze. Rome is an amazing wide receiver out of the University of Washington. The Washington Huskies, one of the best teams in the NCAA, made it to the national championship but fell short to J.J McCarthy and the Michigan Wolverines. Rome also led the league in receiving yards with 1,640. The Chargers were also in possession of Keenan Allen, a 31 year old wide receiver with several pro bowl appearances. Keenan is a great wide receiver, don’t get me wrong, but he’s getting pretty old for a receiver. The Chargers took these factors in consideration and traded Keenan Allen to the Bears. While it is severely unlikely, I could even see it as a possibility that the Cardinals take Rome Odunze over Marvin Harrison Jr. You also have to look at the quarterbacks that a wide receiver had too. Rome had an amazing quarterback in Micheal Penix Jr. Marvin Harrison on the other hand, has Kyle McCord, who is not an amazing QB.
