2023 Tennis Season

The 2023 tennis season has been good so far with EJHS winning a majority of their games. There will be a total of 12 games in their season. 7 home games and 4 away games so far we have played 9 games with 3 left. The coach for the team is Kelly Scholl. There are 3 teams: the black, the red, and the white. The black team is EJHS's ¨best¨ team, the red team is the junior varsity, and the white team is typically the new players who don't usually play. The black team overall got 4 wins and 3 losses the red team had 3 wins 2 losses and 2 ties.
The next game they played was April 24th at Bedford, 5:30 P.M. with the black team winning 5-0 and the red team losing 1-3. April 27th was the next game played at EJHS, 5:30 P.M. against John Wooden Middle School (Martinsville East) with the black team scoring 4-1 and the red team also winning with the score of 2-1. The next game was the following day April 28th at EJHS, 5:30 P.M. against LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN ACADEMY with no score recorded. The next game was May 2nd at EJHS, 5:30 P.M. against Linton-Stockton Jr Sr High School with the black team losing 2-3 and the red team winning 2-1. The next game was May 6th at Washington Jr High School, 10:00 A.M. with no score recorded. The next game was May 8th at Brown County, 4:30 P.M. with the black team scoring 1-4 and the red team also losing 0-4. The next game that will be played is on May 15th at Indian Creek Middle School, 5:30.

Now we have some quotes from some of the players. When asked the question what's the best part of tennis Poppy who started playing this year answered, ¨being with the team and just playing as a team.¨ Meg Wilson was asked why did you choose to play tennis. She who has been playing tennis for 2 years (including this year) answered, ¨my mom was the coach of the high school team and all of my siblings have done it so I figured I should give it a try and then I just fell in love with it.¨
Edgewood has a great tennis team that I hope to see playing next year. The hard work and effort put into their passion is incredible and thanks to kelly sholl, the coach of the 2023 tennis season. The whole team is just so together it's heartwarming. I look forward to seeing the 8th graders move up and play for the high school team if they choose to! Thats all for my article see you next time.
