Are you new to Edgewood Junior High School? Well our principal, Mr. Rentschler is too! Keep reading to find out more about him, as well as some of his tips for new middle school students!

Kent Rentschler, or Mr. R, a father of two, has been teaching since 2008. He spent a year at Edgewood High School, and spent 14 at North Harrison, before coming here. He coached ten years of junior high football, as well as played during high school. Mr. Rentschler has also been a principal at North Harrison for 4 years. So far, he has been loving his time here at EJHS, although the hardest part was, “Not knowing everybody like I have in the past.” He explains that trying to learn everybody’s names has been by far the biggest challenge since coming to Edgewood.

Mr. Rentschler has two daughters, Anna, who is in 6th grade, and Ava, a 2nd grader. They both are really into music and arts, so Mr. R has developed an interest for those as well. Outside of school, Mr. Rentschler is really into football. “When I was in school, I was a three sport athlete. I played football, basketball, and baseball.” He was offered a chance to play football or baseball for Indiana State, but he declined both.

Mr. R, like some of you guys, is also embarking on his journey of being a principal at EJHS, this being his first year. He says, “It’s kind of like being the new kid in the school,” so he relates to you new middle schoolers! His main tip for new students at EJHS, specifically 6th graders, is to get involved. The more activities, sports, or clubs you get involved in, the more friends you’ll make. His main comparison of EJHS and North Harrison is that there are more electives to pick from, like Media Production, Journalism, Wild Indiana, and Sustainable Botany, at EJHS. In North Harrison, you only have 2 options for electives. He says, “Some kids that go to school here and have gone to school here their whole lives don’t realize how much this school has to offer.”

In conclusion, Mr. Rentschler is very excited to work at EJHS this year and hopefully for many more. We are so grateful to have him here and we believe that he will be a great addition to the RBB community.
