Chips are a popular snack invented in 1853 by George Crum. They were prevalent when they were invented and have only grown in popularity since their invention. Today they are an extremely popular snack and Americans have consumed millions of pounds of chips. There is one question that people have been wondering for a long time: What is the best chip type that you should have as a snack? In this article, you will find what are the top 5 best chips to have.

Number 5: Cheetos

Cheetos are an okay chip. It is a crunchy cheesy chip and  they have different flavors that you can choose from like Cheddar Jalapeno and Flaming Hot Cheetos. Lily Stapelton says, “Flaming hot Cheetos are the best and surpass all chip flavors.” However, these are not a great chip option if you're lactose intolerant or can't have cheese, as Cheetos are cheese-based. Cheetos are overall a good snack, but compared to the other chip options on this list, they'll have to be placed at number five.

Number 4: Lays

Lays are the most classic chip type that was founded in September of 1961. Shortly after, they merged with the Frito Company, forming Frito-Lay Inc. Not long after, they gained popularity across America and internationally. They originated as just a basic potato chip but over time they developed new flavors. There are many different options for flavors and some of the most popular ones for this specific chip are Barbecue, and Sour Cream & Onion. The chip as a whole is good, but some of the flavors aren't that great and feel a little basic sometimes. This is why Lays are number four on the list.

Number 3: Ruffles

Ruffles are a crinkle-cut potato chip introduced in 1948 and come in many flavors like Flaming Hot, Cheddar and Sour Creme, and BBQ. Ruffles differ from different chip types because of their distinct crinkle-cut and waviness, which became a characteristic of the brand and it contributed even more to the popularity of the chip. The texture is like your typical potato chip, but Ruffles have a slightly crunchier feel to them. Ruffles are a very popular chip choice, especially when people are packing their snacks in their lunch box for school. David Shultz says, “I love the taste and texture of Ruffles.” Overall, they are a pretty good chip which places them in number three.

Number 2: Doritos

Doritos are a good chip type. Doritos are corn chips with flavoring and spice that give them a nice tang. Callen Robertson says, “Nacho cheese Doritos number 1.” Also, the crunch you get from biting down on a Dorito is really amazing. Overall Doritos are an awesome chip that stands out to me a lot.  Also, They have some great flavors like sweet and spicy chili and sweet and tangy BBQ. The reason that they are number 2 is because some flavors seem like too much.

Number 1: Pringles

Pringles are a very good chip and the best chip out of the ones on this list. Now you may argue that Pringles might not be classified as a chip but that doesn't matter. Pringles have a slightly different texture that differs from your usual potato chips because Pringles uses a different recipe, which doesn't actually include potatoes. They come in different-sized containers instead of bags that make them easier to carry around. “‘Pringles are really good. They have so many flavors for everyone to enjoy too,” says Alana Armstrong, a 6th grader at EJHS. Some of their most popular flavors are salt & vinegar, sour cream and onion, BBQ and just their classic type. Because of their great flavors, they are number 1 on the list.
