More Than Just One Band

The 6th-grade band concert, on March 4, 2024, went well. This time there were some added features. The first feature added was 6th grade percussion.  The percussion section began practicing before winter break and finally got to join the band for this performance. The other guest was the 7th grade jazz band, who also played some songs. Overall, everyone did great!

The 6th grade band was amazing. Since they had both bands, brass and woodwinds, the crowd was huge. They had some speaking parts that included Savanah Mills, Brinley, and Jackson Warren. “We have been preparing since the 3rd quarter started,” said Jaselyn Garcia, “We practiced until it was perfect.”

The Jazz band included the songs, “Rock the House” and “Centerpiece” After the first song, the jazz band played Centerpiece. 6th grade played 2 more songs, then the jazz band played ´Rock the House´. This one was a big hit. They also had soloists that wrote their own solos! They all did a great job.

¨My favorite song was ´Blue Note Rock´ because that was one the 6th grade has never played before,¨ says Mr. Koehler, the EJHS band teacher. Mr. Koehler chooses the songs by looking back at other 6th grade student concerts and uses some songs, or he goes to the online store and gets them that way too! ¨6th grade has come a long way from their first concert because before they could only play ´Mary had a Little Lamb´ but now they can play a full three minute songs that are full pages.”

Overall the bands did great. It might have been a little nerve-racking for them, but they did an outstanding job. You should come to the next concert in May.
