Did you know that there was a phone ban put in place in Indiana classrooms? Well, the law is “any portable wireless device.” We are going to talk about why the state of Indiana made the phone ban in school and how it will impact EJHS. We will also go over what the phone ban means and how it will be enforced in schools. Florida passed a similar law last year and Kentucky, Vermont, Tennessee, and Kansas are considering it.

The governor of Indiana Eric Holcomb signed a bill that said that students are prohibited from using phones in class. The main reason that Holcomb signed the bill is  Health experts say that phones in class distract students from doing their work and from listening to teachers.“It’s also important during those situations as we have learned in training that we are getting complete and accurate information out there,” said Marie Theisz, Terre Haute North High School teacher. Students are allowed to use their phones for a Medical emergency and in the case of a school shooting.

There are many ways the phone ban could impact schools around Indiana. The law says that it requires schools to not allow students to have phones or other wireless devices during class. However, the teacher can allow the students to have their phones in class for educational purposes. It doesn’t affect our school that much since we are already not allowed to use our phones in class. But it really is up to the school for what they want to do.

These are some phones you might have.

And last but not least what the phone ban is and what it enforces in schools. The phone ban is where you can't have your phone in class. The law says that you may have your phone at lunch, passing periods, and breaks but the teachers can say no and that they can't have their phone at all at school. The phone ban means that you shouldn't have your phone but if teachers let you have your phone you can use your phone for educational purposes only.

In conclusion, Indiana just made a phone ban that makes students not allowed to have their phones in class unless for educational purposes. It doesn’t really affect our school that much because we are already not allowed to have our phones in class. By reading this article you found out what the phone ban is, why we made the phone ban, and how it will affect schools. Do you agree or disagree with the phone ban?
