Contest of Champions

What is the contest of champions in the first place? Contest of Champions is a competition placed on February 3rd, 2024 as of this year. It is placed at the Edgewood High School auditorium. Edgewood choirs will be performing and shining! Contest of Champions is the MidWest's most renowned show choir concert!

This year will be its 34th anniversary! Last year's Grand Champions were the one and only Beavercreek High School winning best vocals, best choreography, best crew, best soloist (Brandon Zealot), and best soloist (Alexandra Carlos). All-day tickets cost $18, $15 for prelims, $12 for finals, and $20 for livestream. Some judges are Sam Chenoweth, Melissa Stainbrook, and Jay Emrich.

Why is the competition so early in the season? Well, the reason it's so early is so you can get students some performance feedback as quickly as possible! Most of the things they offer are professional lighting, sound systems, staging, new vendors with expanded food, refreshments, and souvenir selection. They are very excited about a newly added division called “Medium Mixed”! The division was added to help keep the contest educational, yet fair.

A couple of the schools competing against us are Northrop High School, Plainfield High School, Beavercreek High School, and Owen Valley High School. Beavercreek High School is performing their winning performance from last year's contest. “I had fun and enjoyed watching all of the schools perform!” Says Kierra Wells, Kierra Wells is a 7th grader at EJHS who attended the contest! Edgewood is not only hosting this for the contest but also as a fundraiser! They will sell flashing sunglasses, glowing rings, fun neon hats, and glowing foam tubes!

In the end, the grand champion of the contest was Plainfield High School, winning best vocals, best choreography, and outstanding soloist (Abbey Goodiea). I hope you all enjoyed watching our school perform and try as hard as they can!
