What is it like to be homeschooled?

Some of us might have been homeschooled or are planning to be homeschooled whether it’s going to be in a month or a year. But, what would it be like to be homeschooled for more than half of your life? We’re going to look into the life of a homeschooled student and her opinions on it. So.. what is it like to be homeschooled?

Evvie Barker is a 10 year old girl who has been homeschooled since she was in 1st grade. Her academic level at the moment varies from 5th grade to 7th grade. She does many activities during her freetime along with being a homeschooled student. One of her activities is choir. She has been in choir since she was 2 years old. She gets to sing songs in other languages such as Spanish, German and Gaelic. “Choir is what opens up my options for auditioning for operas,” Evvie says.

Another activity that Evvie does is theater! She has been in theater since she was 9 years old. Some of the plays she’s been in are Alice in Wonderland, Babe The Sheep Pig and Snow White. She does all her plays at the Tivoli Theater in Owen County, more specifically, Spencer. “My favorite part about theater is probably expressing myself.” she says. She also does dance in her free time. Since she does competitive dancing she gets to go to places like Tennessee, Kentucky and Missouri for dance competitions.

Aside from Evvie’s activities, she also gets to go cool places to learn the things that she knows! One of the things she has done is nature school. There she gets to learn more about wildlife and how they live. Another thing that she does is that she gets to go to the Children's Museum and be taught there. Evvie also does art classes during the day so she can learn how to do different things with art. “Art class is where I learned to watercolor paint.” she says.

One of Evvie’s favorite things about homeschooling is having a flexible schedule. Since she has a flexible schedule she’s able to do a lot more things instead of worrying about if school is the next day or not. That is how she does all her fun activities and classes! Evvie also likes being able to be home and being able to spend more time with her family.

That is the life of a homeschooled student. Evvie has a very interesting life and hopes to keep it that way. Life as a homeschooler is different but interesting and fun.
