Upon meeting Poppy Bishop, you might not expect that she would be a swimmer. However, she absolutely loves it and has begun doing it at EJHS.

Poppy has definitely proved she is very good at swimming. She has been swimming at the YMCA for around 9 months. Poppy is very talented at swimming. Recently, she has been taken out of the slowest lanes and moved into the fast ones. “My favorite stroke would have to be freestyle. I think the hardest skill I have in swimming is the backstroke.” According to enjoy-swimming.com, a backstroke is where you “Pull one arm through the water from an overhead position to the hip, while the other arm recovers above the water from the hip to the overhead position and vice versa. “

Swimming is a lot of time commitment. You have to go five days a week for  1 ½ hours. On her team, she has people like Alaina Felton, Molly Wisniewski, and Audrey Gudmonson. “I am hoping to stay in swimming all the way through Junior High and possibly High School. Something cool about swimming is that traveling is very cool because you get to go to different schools like Bachelor and some other middle schools.”

Her overall rating of swimming so far would be a 9/10. “I believe that our Edgewood swim team will be great with the number of people that are willing to put in the amount of effort and want to continue with swimming while also pushing themselves as hard as they can.”

Poppy would, “Definitely recommend it if you’re up for a challenge! It can also condition you for other fall sports because it builds muscle and strength.” She gives it a 9/10 and loves the practices and moves whether they are hard or easy! Swimming from Poppy’s perspective would be considered an overall great experience and she clearly loves it. “Swimming is a great sport, and you should definitely try it!"
