Wednesday Theories

Have you ever wondered why the NightShade’s library is opened by two snaps, or where the sword Wednesday fought Joseph Crackstone with came from? Why is the Nightshade poisoning that killed Weems able to kill in seconds? Hello, and welcome to Wednesday Theories!

Now, for our first theory, we are going to be discussing something that most of you might have not noticed. Well, if you’ve ever heard the Addams Family theme song, you’ll notice that after the musical scale goes up there is a sound that sounds like snapping twice. Well, if you remember the way to get into the Nightshade’s library, which is snapping twice, then this would all make sense to you now. And another thing… Who created the NightShades? Goody Addams. Now, when the Addams Family created that song, that might have been a remnant for when they were NightShade Leaders.

2. Why is the Nightshade poisoning that killed Weems so powerful?

This is probably one that you haven’t thought of much, but for this one, we need to dive into the real world and check out ACTUAL Nightshade poison. In the real world, Nightshade poisoning kills in days if unchecked, but is still unlikely to kill. So why is the poison so strong in the show? Well, It could possibly be that the Nightshade flower that gave the materials to make the poison was genetically engineered secretly by Ms. Thornhill (AKA Laurel Gates) who was bent on eradicating the outcasts. But I can’t imagine Ms. Laurel Gates engineering a flower’s DNA to kill all who get the poison in their bloodstream, so I’m just going to compare the symptoms. First, the show. In the show, during the scene where Wednesday figures out how Gerrodd Gates actually dies, figuring it out with her mom, she mentions all of these symptoms: Foaming maw, Mental Confusion, dilated pupils. The first two are definitely telltale signs of Nightshade poison. But the rest of the real life symptoms include slurred speech, hallucinations, rash, blurred vision, and convulsions. This just proves what I said about more powerful poison, or a sort of Nightshade plant that is only known to the Outcasts, Nevermore, and unfortunately, Ms. Thornhill/Laurel Gates.

3. Where did the sword that Wednesday fought Crackstone with come from?

Now, for this one, we’ll have to take in information from the original Addams Family movie, where we see Wednesday as a younger girl. Now, in this movie, we see that Wednesday’s father, Gomez Addams, has a large collection of swords, different kinds include Rapiers, Cutlasses, and Cimeters. But where did he get all of those blades? Well, my theory is that Wednesday’s ancestor from the 1600s, Goody Addams, who was mentioned earlier, killed Crackstone and raided some of his belongings. We know how easily Crackstone's belongings were able to be stolen, because the Crackstone chamber pot was sold to Pilgrim World in Jericho. Now, these might have been passed down when she died, and they got passed down to Gomez. But before she died, she might have given a sword to Nathaniel Falkner, the man who founded Nevermore and cataloged every Outcast community. When Falkner died during his research on Hydes, the sword must have been placed in the very case that Wednesday pulled it from and killed Joseph Crackstone with. It seems very fitting to put it in Nevermore.

Now, if you’ve seen even the first episode, you’ll know who Ms. Thornhill is. But if you’ve seen the entire thing, then you’ll know who she is. And her name is Laurel Gates. Now, the last time we saw Laurel was when she was in the quad after Crackstone was stabbed, bees stinging her entire body, before Wednesday knocked her unconscious. WHAT HAPPENED TO HER? She figured out how to release Joseph Crackstone from an eternal sleep. She figured out how to unlock a Hyde. She’s definitely smart enough to break out of prison, assuming that’s where she went after the events of Episode 8: A Murder of Woes. Well, it is possible that today’s villain is gone for good, and it’s also possible that the villain of today will be tomorrow’s nemesis. Now, what could happen is that she was sent to prison for life after an attempted murder of the outcasts, via releasing Joseph Crackstone from his sarcophagus and having him attempt to kill all of the outcasts, multiple attempts to kill Wednesday, kidnapping charges for capturing her and using her to unlock Crackstone’s coffin Blood Lock. After she was sent to prison, she would use her intelect to get out of the prison. After escaping, she would live under the radar in the Gates Mansion, the house of the Gates, including her mother, her father, Ansel Gates, and her not-so-recently deceased brother, Gerrodd Gates. All of them, with the exception of Laurel, are dead. Gerrodd was killed during his mission to spike the punch at the Rave’N when Wednesday’s mother and father were in school. After he died, his mother hung herself with a noose in the backyard of their house and his father drank himself to an early grave. Laurel actually faked her death. She was sent overseas to an orphanage, but was presumed drowned. She actually swam her way back to Jericho, where she gave herself an alibi, disguising herself as Marilyn Thornhill. Back to the present, she would find a way to stalk Wednesday, as she was actually the stalker who gave Wednesday the ominous text saying “I’m watching you 👀” with pictures of her to prove it. She also made a GIF of a knife being thrown into the side of her head to put things into perspective.

After seeing these theories, what do you think?
