Inheritance Games Review

Mystery, Murder, Mayhem. What else is there to say? How can you describe a mystery that involves billions? That would be a great book series. Luckily I don’t have to write it because it is already a best-selling series with a total of over 2 million copies sold. I present to you, The Inheritance Games, Book 1.

The Inheritance Games is a 3 book series/ trilogy and is already a bestseller. An add-on book is expected to come out around August 29, 2023. This series is written by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. She is known for writing Little White Lies, Deadly Little Scandals, The Naturals series, and The Fixer. She is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than twenty young adult novels. “Inheritance Games was one of the best YA series that I have read recently! It was so good that I have recommended it to over 20 students,” says Mrs. Cowden, a 7th grade ELA teacher.

The Inheritance Game (first book) is an addicting mystery that makes you ask, Where? What? When? Why? How?

Now for the addicting plot of book 1. The series follows/ is from the perspective of, a young girl (17 years old in the first book, 17 in the 2nd book, and both 18 and 19 in the last book/ she had a birthday) named Avery Kylie Grambs. As the book starts, you start to understand Avery’s life so far. Avery is the type of girl to hide in the shadows and just get by. Her dad has never been around so she has been living with her mom. A year before the book takes place, Avery’s mom dies from an unnamed illness. This causes Avery to live with her half-sister, Libby. Libby is related to Avery via their dad (who also doesn’t care about either of them). Libby is a great sister despite the fact that she has an abusive boyfriend, Drake.

Now fast forward to the book, it starts off following her through her life until a random guy (a few years older than her) shows up at her school and insists that she goes to this will reading in Texas. The will belongs to Tobias Hawthorne, a billionaire who died from sickness. At the will reading she finds out that Tobias Hawthorne had a large family: 2 daughters, a deceased son, 4 grandsons from one of the daughters (all the boys have different fathers), and a mother-in-law that is still living. "I love the way they portray the family. The fact that they make the grandsons look and sound perfect!" Ona Terrell says.

Then, the will. In the will, it states that the family members get some money and a few little trinkets, but nothing compared to the $40 billion net worth of Tobias Hawthorne. Avery ends up getting the rest of the money, and the house. The only thing is, to be able to inherit all of it, she has to live in the house for a year (only 3 nights away per month). Everybody starts getting mad that Avery got basically everything. The rest of the book is a hunt to find out why this rich man left all his possessions to this random girl. The book includes some near-death experiences, some romances (nothing inappropriate, just dating and kissing), and some interesting facts they find out.

The series involves many things like new characters, a hunt to figure out the past, and realization that perfect is not always perfect.

That is as much as I will explain without saying too much. You will have to read the book to understand why I am so obsessed with this series. In my opinion, this is the best book series ever. I am obsessed with Harry Potter, but this series beats Harry Potter! I love how the books allow the reader to try to solve the mystery and always wonder “why?”! Out of all the books, The last one is my favorite, but the rest of them (the other two) are still REALLY good!
