Subways Close and Are Now Reopening

On Monday January 30th, nine of the ten Subway locations in Monroe County closed due to improper licensing. They are now starting to reopen after getting their licenses renewed. The locations that closed were: 319 Winslow Road, 4623 Richland Plaza, 350 W. Bloomfield Road, 4001 Old Ind. 37, 2886 E. Third St., 1799 E. 10th St., 907 S. College Mall Road, 1839 N. Kinser Pike, and 3480 W. Third St. The Subway locations are opened back up and if they are not they are working on it.

The reason for closure was because their licenses to operate were invalid because when you switch ownership of a restaurant the licenses don't carry over. That means that when the restaurant switched ownership that the license became invalid and had to be renewed by the new owner. Since they didn’t renew their license they couldn’t remain open therefore they had to close.

With the renewal of their licenses they are able to reopen. Most have renewed their licenses and are open or working on reopening. They are also hiring people for multiple job spots.  They also had to fill out paperwork and have an inspection to get the license renewed. The company is hoping for a rebound of customers and to get all of their stores back up and running with no other setbacks.

Let's hear from a few student's on their opinions about Subway re-opening: First up is Jack Grubaugh, a sixth grader here at EJHS: "I think that it is a good idea for Subway to re-open because it is good and it gives me more options to eat." Next, we have Macy Mullin, an eighth grader: " I think as long as they are addressing the problem it should be okay. As long as there isn't a health code violation it should be fine." Lastly, we have Wren Ferguson , a seventh grader: " If they had licensing issues in the first place that is not good but, I think that them re-opening is good for their business. Also if their issue is fixed it is fine for them to re-open as long as it is safe." What do you think about them re-opening? Give your opinion in the form below!
