Edgewood! Edgewood! Cheerleaders cheer for their team and they get a touchdown!

This year there is a cheerleading season and many people tried out for this year. Tryouts were on April 19th Wednesday, 20th Thursday, 21th Friday. The first two days were clinics and then Friday was tryouts. There are many cheerleaders that made the team including  the 6th graders, 7th graders, and 8th graders.

The cheerleader’s coaches are Lacie Axom and Becka Baxter. The cheerleaders cheer for basketball and football seasons.”I really like stunting because It looks really exciting and I love hearing all the gasps when we throw someone in the air and catch them.” said a EJHS cheerleader, Payton Baugh.

The cheerleaders have practice on Mondays and Fridays 5-7.The cheerleaders practice includes, conditioning, cheers, chants, dances, tumbling, stunts, and upcoming games. They have practice all summer! The cheerleaders have had no games yet, however they start cheering for the football team around August, and September. Which gives the new cheerleaders time to learn all the cheers, chants, and dances, and how being a cheerleader works.

The coaches like it says above are Lacie Axsom and Becka Baxter. They are amazing coaches and have been coaching for a long time. Each of the cheerleaders love the coaches for many reasons, some say they are tough but they push them so they can do the best they can. They are great coaches and work very hard to make their cheerleaders as amazing as they can be, “They are really nice and they understand you and if you don’t force you to do anything they take it step by step until you feel confident to do it.” Emma Warner, a former cheerleader.

Alaina Felton says “I am very excited about cheerleading because I made the team! I am excited to bond with the other cheerleaders and can't wait to become an even better cheerleader.” As you can tell there are many great, peppy cheerleaders at EJHS ,and can’t wait to start cheering for people at games! Come to any of the games and you can come cheer on the Colts!
