The Addams Family Movie Review

You may know them as creepy and kooky. Mysterious and spooky? Said to be altogether ooky. That’s right, it’s the Addams Family! With Halloween just around the corner, I thought it would be a good time to talk about one of my favorite movies that fits the season. The movie starts out by introducing the family, Gomez, Morticia,  Wednesday, Pugsley, Grandma, Lurch, and Thing. It then cuts to a man (Gorden Craven) and his mother (Abigail Craven) with their lawyer (Tully Alford), who is in debt with the duo.

Meanwhile the Addams are experiencing fake financial problems brought up by Tully.  Gomez tells Tully that he will pay him with money from the house's vault. He also explains that they are celebrating the loss of the oldest Addams brother, Fester Addams.  As Gomez goes to retrieve the money, Tully follows and is able to see a hidden door in the bookshelves. Inside he sees a glimpse into the vault, filled with millions of dollars worth of gold, silver, and precious jewels.

Tully reports back to Abigail and Gorden with what he saw, saying how much money was in the vault, enough for him to pay them both back and then some. The crooked trio soon devise a plan to steal the Addams family fortune that is somewhere in the Addams house. They soon shave Gordens head, put him in all dark clothes and send him to the house.

As Gorden arrives at the house, he soon realizes that Morticia is becoming suspicious of him, and soon tries to win the children over. Gomez is trying to help his brother remember his past by taking him down to the families vault of money, and watches old films of him and Fester  when they were little. After the room, “Fester” finally snaps at Gomez for trying to make him be his old Fester, and plans to leave. He soon tries to open the vault that Gomez showed him. He then ended up pulling a book off of the shelf that released a large gust of wind. He soon contacts Abigail, feeling hopeless. But soon Abigail sets up a plan to break into the house while the family is at the children's school play. Fester soon helps Wednesday and Pugsley prepare for their play, while Morticia observes Fester’s behavior.

The night of the play, Abigail tells Gorden to stay in the house so that she and Tully could be let in to find the vault. Gordon soon abandons the plan and rushes to the play to see the children. In light of the performance, Gomez and Morticia decide to invite the whole Addams family to the house for a party. As all of the guests are downstairs, Gordon and Abigail sneak upstairs to go over plans when Wednesday walks upstairs and hears their plans. They chase her through the house until she loses them, then she falls asleep in the cemetery, waiting until morning to tell her parents of the plans.

The next morning, the family wakes to being forced out of their home. Since Festor is the older sibling, he has control of the house. The family soon rush to find a new house, while Morticia returns to their house only to be captured by Tully and Abigail. When Gomez finds out, he rushes to the house to help her escape.

Festor feels for the Addams and wants to help them. He soon leads Tully and Abigail into the library, and lunges for the book of wind. He opens the book and watches as Tully and Abigail go flying into the open graves that were dug by Wednesday and Pugsley.

After that night, the Addams family regain control of the house, and discover that Fester was indeed Fester all along. He has hit his head due to the gush of wind and was able to remember who he really was, a true Addams. The family soon gather together and end up living the rest of their lives as scary as possible.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and love to watch it every Halloween. It has lots of humor and a great twist on the average family story. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who wants to watch a timeless classic for Halloween.  This is a great addition to your Halloween movie list and a movie to watch all year round!
