Good Movies to Watch on Halloween

By: Maggie Cooper

Ready to get all spooked up for Halloween?(oh WOW that sounded cringey)Good way to do that is binge watch Halloween related movies. Here are a few movies I think are great to do just that. And by “just that” I mean temporarily getting over your arachnophobia, getting involved in some Witchy shenanigans, and conversing with your ghost friend Casper.

Let's start classic with good old Hocus Pocus. It’s a classic story about an idiot teenage boy that awakens some witches that plan on eating some children. And then said idiot boy, his much sassier sister, a pretty girl in his class (that he may or may not have a crush on.), and one talking cat went to clean up that mess. Directed by Kenny Ortega and produced by Bonnie Bruckheimer, Steven Haft, and David Kirschner. Rated 4.6 stars and made in 1993.

This one is another classic, Nightmare Before Christmas. This one is about Jack Skellington “kidnapping” Santa Claus after he gets bored of scaring people and discovers Christmastown, filled with light and joy. He kidnaps Santa Claus to bring Christmas under his control, but problems occur when Oogie Boogie gets involved. Directed by Henry Selick and produced by Tim Burton, Denise De Novi, Danny Elfman, and Don Hahn.

Next up is The Addams Family, not the animated version. The older version. Made in 1991, and rated 4.8 stars. It all starts when a man, Gordon, claims to be Gomez Addams’ long lost brother, Fester, approaches the Addams family, a creepy, wealthy bunch that never seems to die. Morticia Addams suspects that Gordon isn’t Fester when he can’t remember anything from his childhood. Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld and produced by Scott Rudin.

Last one! Beetlejuice. Made in 1988 and rated PG-13. It all starts when Barbara and Adam Maitland die and become ghosts. A family comes to buy the house, while the ghost Maitlands are still living there. The Maitland’s summon Beetlejuice, another ghost, to come help them with their problem. The family moving in are the Deetzs’, and their daughter Lydia can see the ghost Maitlands. She tries to help the Maitlands scare her parents, but Beetlejuice has still been summoned, and he starts to cause problems.

Rated 4.5 stars and directed by Tim Burton. Larry Wilson, Micheal Bender, and Richard Hashimoto are the producers.
