Pumpkin Pie: Halloween or Thanksgiving?

When I say pumpkin pie many immediately think of Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is known for having pumpkin pie and it is a tradition for many. But it also makes sense to have it on Halloween too, doesn’t it? Even though it seems like it could be a Halloween dessert it is definitely for Thanksgiving. One of my reasons for thinking Thanksgiving is you don’t normally have dessert on Halloween, you have candy. Another is Halloween is fun but not everyone is that into Halloween, while most do celebrate Thanksgiving, having a reason for pie. Lastly, pumpkin pie is just known as a Thanksgiving dessert by many and has been a Thanksgiving tradition for a while.

My first reason is not many people are going to make a dessert like a pie just for Halloween. Lots of people are going door to door Trick-Or-Treating on Halloween night and don’t have time to be making pie. I also think that when you get candy to give away or from Trick-Or-Treating you are probably going to eat it. After having candy pumpkin pie probably doesn’t sound good to most.

My next reason is that if people aren’t into Halloween then they aren’t going to put effort into making a pie for it. Now lots of people get together with family on Thanksgiving so it makes more sense to make a pie for it. “Thanksgiving is the second-most popular holiday in the U.S. after Christmas, with nearly 90 percent of Americans celebrating every year.” from familyhandyman.com. While Halloween is also celebrated by many, only 70% are planning to celebrate in 2023, a 20% difference.

Eating pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving has been a tradition for a while, and lots of people know that. According to quebradabakingco.com. “By the early 18th century, pumpkin pie earned its spot at the Thanksgiving table as the New England holiday grew in popularity. So if people have been eating pumpkin pie since the 18th century and the tradition keeps getting passed down, then why wouldn’t you have pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving.

Is pumpkin pie a Halloween or Thanksgiving dessert? Did you know many people also think pumpkin pie is a Christmas dessert too? I don’t agree, pumpkin pie is a fall dessert and a fall dessert only! What is your opinion? Fill out this form here with what you think!
