My senior piece depicts adoptable dogs at a local rescue, Peggy Adams Animal Rescue. Underneath each portrait is a collage of pictures, descriptions, information, and a story behind each dog. The information embedded in the collages include: name, breed, age, weight, gender, and more. The combination of the portraits with the collages allow a more personal connection between the audience and the rescue animals. The piece was made to promote the adoption of the numerous rescue animals in shelters. This is a passionate cause of mine as I have volunteered at animal rescues and hope to one day make a difference in the veterinary community. Becoming a veterinarian has become an aspiration of mine since working with animals in need at rescues and being exposed to the impacts local veterinarians have had on the quality of life of the animals I have worked with. With the number of domestic animals in need, in crucial conditions, and up for adoption, Peggy Adams and other local rescues, such as Furry Friends and All For One Pet Rescue, are especially important as they are no kill shelters. Making this passion project as one of my last pieces in my high school career, allowed me to accumulate and combine all I have learned through my years at Dreyfoos with my future aspirations and one of my most passionate causes.
Congratulations to the class of 2020 for graduating and here’s to new opportunities next year! I know our year ended in a way we never expected and we never did get a day full of our ‘lasts’ for high school. However, I also look back upon all of three and three quarters years of memories and hard work, and those still get to be very much celebrated and deserve congratulations. I have been greatly inspired by my classmates in their creative projects, talent, work, and perspectives. I’m especially thankful for friends that have supported me through the years and our own memories. I’m also grateful for my teachers at Dreyfoos who have offered encouragement, ideas, and constructive feedback. Thank you Dreyfoos!
Freshman year, 2016
Dear class of 2021,
Congrats on making it through junior year and becoming seniors! While our last year together ended abruptly, hopefully your senior year will begin on campus in the fall. Especially after circumstances and despite the inevitable senioritis that may come during this year, do appreciate and make the most of your senior year. Take the cheesy photos in front of the garage, have fun on spirit week and pep rally, and prom and take advantage of all that senior year offers. Even if you know you are not going to go to college for art, still make the most out of the access to materials and tools and time for assignments and personal works. You may not have the same access to work on art in college, for free too, so go back to what you came to Dreyfoos for, the arts, and make art that inspires and motivates you. Make the most of your last year but also be excited for the next.
