My senior peice is my own take on the classical reclining nude. I paint and draw many surrealistic variations of naked women so this work is cohesive with my typical work. I wanted to paint a reclining nude of a goat women because the idea looked pretty cool in my head so i just went for it.
Me and Jose destroying the competition on 80's day.
I know I only got to go here for a year (barley a year thanks to it being cut short but thats besides the point) but it still was a pretty cool year to be fair. Spending three years at a regular public high school really makes you appreciate what they do at dreyfoos, the environment is totally different and it was a wild experience. So thanks to all my classmates for just being cool people.
A few notable moments of my senior year:
my two week long goth phase, that was wild.
when Ms. Van Reeth would ask the APAH class for any news or announcements before we started and I kept giving unsolicited updates about my tonsillitis until I wasn’t allowed to make announcements anymore, good times.
When I wore those huge chunky boots for like 2 months despite always tripping and rolling my ankles from them because I liked being 3 inches taller
I got into Art Basel and got to miss like a week of school so that was pretty cool.
That one time Ranel fed me hair (to be fair I was blindfolded with an ice pack)
When Ranel, Gabba, and I drew all of that... interesting... art on Ms. Ramos’ white board
When I did my Stacy’s Mom book presentation and I got my one and only compliment from my senior portfolio teacher.
That one time on 80’s day the train wasn’t working or something and me and Jose got stranded at the station for like 45 minutes in over the top, full 80’s gear.
That other time on early 2000’s music day when I had to Uber home looking like Eminem and 2010 Justin Bieber’s estranged love child.
When me and Chloe went around the school collecting hair samples from students and teachers for our hair book

Dear future seniors,
I'm not going to sugar coat anything, "senioritis" hits hard sometimes. You just have to push through it. Don't slack on your work or trust me it will pile up and not be pretty. Every chance you have to sleep, TAKE IT. Being sleep deprived doesnt make you quirky and relatable it just makes you sleep deprived. I got into the habit of saving all my work for the very last minute. Then once it all piled up, I would pull all nighters to get it done. Don't do that. Senior year goes by very fast so really try to appreciate it. College stuff is scary, so start as early as possible. I slacked off and avoided it, so now I have to scramble to get scholarships because who knew art school was THAT expensive. Don't do that. Don’t be lazy or stupid and start looking into colleges and financial aid as early as possible. I went through senior year very laid back, giving minimal effort in academics but not in my art work. I never cared for academic classes but I actually enjoyed art so it was easy for me to put actual effort in. I’m not shy, in fact I went through my senior year with pretty much no filter and just did mostly whatever I felt like. My advice is to just stop caring about how your peers view you and do what you want. I’m not saying be a bad person, just be a person who isn’t restricted by other people’s opinions of them. It’s not worth it. So to summarize my advice to the upcoming seniors: Sleep. Start college stuff early. Stop caring about other people, but don’t be a jerk.
Best of luck (you’re gonna need it),
Milan.
