As I bring my Senior Year to a close as a Visual Major at Dreyfoos, my artwork is a
reflection of my pursuits both stylistically and thematically. Through young arts and
some of my concentration last year, the idea and freedom that outer space and what
inhabits it captivated me as an artist. A place so big that there was possibility for any
color or any shape to be brought into existence. Along with the skills and mindset I
developed while producing that level of art, I gained a new love for painting and the
style of layering it involves. Not long after getting an iPad I spent my days transitioning
my skills and concepts onto there, keeping up with the same technique. Because I am a
lover of landscapes and space-scapes alike, most of my work dealt with both sides of
that spectrum. Here for my senior piece, I sought to achieve and showcase both, in a
cohesive set. My color choice had to do with the duality of the piece as one was to
complement the other, both symbolically and literally. Acting as mirrors to one another,
they are connected though scenery, character, and composition alike.
To my friends and all the artists who continue to inspire me and shape me, thank you. Dreyfoos had gifted me a perfect place to develop my skills in art, academic and growth socially. As much as I wish to have wrapped things up on a better note, I am still content with the many memories and the knowledge I will take with me into my profession.
Like all the previous classes, you have found it in yourself to pursue a passion and interest, while sharing it and developing it with your peers in an ever changing world. Dreyfoos though, will remain relatively the same. Our resources will always be at disposal for the creative, our teachers always ready to help guide and grow, and our student body will remain connected. Due to today's circumstances we are as a whole, socially fractured, but our community and our creativity has shown we can go beyond that. This site and show is a testament to that. I believe that just as we are overcoming this you too can apply that innovative spirit wherever it may take you. But for now you still have one more year. One more year to hone in on that innovation and take every opportunity to do so. Seeing the light at the end of the tunnel is tempting but do not lose sight of what brought you here. Do not take innovation for granted in a meager world.
