I wont talk about what this piece is about, but I'll talk about why it is the way it is. This piece looks like a mess, because its a transmission of my own free thought down onto paper. I furiously scribbled figures and wrote text that came into mind that has meaning to me and only to me. To explain the emotions and meaning behind all the figures as well as why they look and are posed the way they are wouldn't do anything for the viewer than it already does. Throughout my body of work I have made most of my pieces to be as colorful and visually interesting I can while trying to emote my own feelings in subtle and hidden ways, but in this piece I decided to be selfish and removed the elaborate detailing I typically add on and made a piece in essence for me. This is my own way of being selfish and taking away from the viewers perception in favor of being able to emote in a way only I can truly understand.
Visiting New York like a cryptid.
Usually I'd revel in a chance to say something sarcastic and perhaps comical, but genuinely I have so much respect for this class and my teachers. Mrs. Glosmanova you do so much for the department and your students it amazes me how you manage to do all that, but I respect and appreciate you so much for it. Ms. VanReeth I could not imagine a better AP Art History teacher than you; You've made me fall in love with art history and its something thats really impacted me and my work. As for the rest of my senior class thank you for putting up with the nuisance I am. I have enjoyed being able to make a few laughs and awkward jokes for you all in class!

Well, rising senior welcome to this part of your life. My first wisdom I dispense unto thee is to Save and document literally all your work, and this includes your sketchbook too! I literally went through my senior year as a blazing inferno and I mean literally, my house burnt up, so I now recognize all those years of work and sketchbooks i'd have loved to have are gone forever. I recommend making sketch book tour videos and saving everything to the google drive. Another wisdom for you, possible friend or foe, is to do art that is good for you. I spent so much time this year making art I was just in tune with and happy that I was making, and not only was it cathartic but also has helped me significantly improve. Another wisdom for you, is to try and branch out on the types of things you do! I really loved the idea and process of making my own things for myself like sketchbooks, so don't be afraid to try new art stuff! Finally, please start your college stuff early, because you never know when your house may become all crispy, your grandfather's house condemned and now you have to wheel him around your house.
Sarcastically and sincerely like always,
Blake Weis
