Senior Piece Statement:
My piece is a combination of the 2D and 3D art that I have made at Dreyfoos. For the past year I have had my concentration surround the art and concepts that are required to create characters for video games. For my piece I wanted to make a 3D model of one of the characters I have designed. My character is meant to be the main heroine of a video game. So, I gave her rougher features to portray her tough personality. I initially wanted to make the sculpture out of clay, but due to my mom’s allergies I decided to try Epoxy clay for the first time. The learning curve was steep, and it took me much longer to make than expected due to the necessary drying time and the need to work in small sections at a time. The sanding was tedious, and small details were hard to sculpt due to the stickiness of the medium. Overall, I think the idea for the piece, combining my 2D and 3D interests, was the most successful part of the process. I didn’t necessarily enjoy this particular outcome of melding the two “worlds,” but I think in the future, with more practice and a different medium, I will enjoy it more. I like the idea of having 3D models of my 2D Characters. I think it was the way I have been looking for to combine “both minds” instead of keeping both aspects of my art separate--like I had done for most of my career at Dreyfoos.
I am so thankful to have spent the last 3.75 years with everybody! (I have spent 6.75+ years with some of you guys!)
I am glad to call myself a Dreyfoos grad, and I know everyone in the class of 2020 will go on to do amazing things.
I want to thank my friends and teachers for the laughs and unforgettable moments we all had together while at school. There are some things that are uniquely apart of the Dreyfoos experience that I wouldn't change for the world.
I am extremely grateful for my art teachers who have served as mentors for the last 3.75 years, and all the advice they have given me. I am also grateful for the friends that I have had the pleasure of meeting. Everyone I have known has taught me something new about myself, themselves, or the world.
Thank you all again, goodbye!!!!💕

I'm going to be forward: Senior year is TOUGH! It's hard in the fall juggling college stuff and school work. Some advice: DO NOT OVERLOAD YOURSELF!!!!! It's easy to do this especially if you're trying to fill up your resume for apps, but if you do this something will fall through the cracks. May it be your health, your artwork, or your personal relationships. Really ask yourself what is important to YOU not the college when deciding to take things on (this also helps with college stuff cause it makes you more genuine).
Also, if you're unsure of where to go to college, GO TO PORTFOLIO REVIEWS!!! They are super helpful. They allow you to get better scholarships for art schools, and let you feel out the vibe of the school. Doing more of them also helps you discern what's a business pitch and whats actually meaningful information. I'm so glad that I took advantage of the events like portfolio reviews, and the college fair days, because it really helped me narrow down where I wanted to go to college!
Another tip: HAVE BACKUP PLANS. I know it sucks, but your first choice for college might not work out. It happened to me. I wanted to go to this one school, and even though they gave me a good scholarship, it was still too expensive. I was able to realize this because I had made this massive excel spreadsheet that calculate how much I would be in debt by calculating the amount I had saved and scholarship money vs. the amount of the TOTAL cost of attendance that increased by 3% each year. This was super helpful come time for decision day when i had to put things into perspective. Now, BACKUP plans, have a school that you know you can afford and apply to it. Make sure that they have a program you are interested in. Also make sure it is a VIABLE option: so make sure they have good job placement and you have the credentials to get in there with little difficulty. And make sure you like it enough that you can see yourself going there! Because come decision day it may actually become the college you are going to!
With all the work that come with senior year sometimes making artwork isn't a priority. But I promise you, especially if you are applying to art schools, plan your pieces! Having a schedule and plans for pieces with all the different portfolio requirements and knowing what you need to make is super useful. Just being this much more organized can save you from couple of all-nighters!
🍀I wish you the best of luck with your senior year!🍀
