I would like to start by saying Congratulations! You have made it through to your senior year and you are just one step away from graduating (hopefully not online). This is a huge accomplishment. Part of your journey is not only setting new goals but recognizing when you are making progress to reach those goals. Throughout my whole life I have been a fairly optimistic, open-minded, ambitious person, but on the other side of these I can be fairly quiet, shy, messy, and unmotivated at times. People are multifaceted; so let me let you in on some advice to get through your last year at Dreyfoos. My favorite part of DSOA is really just all the individual experiences I have had with people. You never really appreciate these moments until you're running out of time or these people already gone so please appreciate this time and everyone. Please prioritize you and your self-care over everything, this may sound selfish but, you at your best is the only way you can help others. Also, spend lots of time with your friends, as you never know when you're not gonna see them again (thank you Ms. ‘Rona). Honestly Dreyfoos has so many great things to offer so please enjoy them while you can and do not limit yourself because you are worried about what others may think.
Overall my Dreyfoos experience has had its ups and downs; I would not say it has been perfect but as cheesy as this may sound I would not change a single thing about it. Something that I am glad that I did and would recommend to the next generation is getting focused and believing in myself. I took a fair share of challenging classes with challenging teachers. The best way to handle these classes is to really focus and make friends with people in your classes so you can help eachother out. In terms of art classes, do not leave your art to the last minute, I have done this too many times and the pieces never turn out well because art always reciprocates the energy that you put into it and that goes for anything in life so don’t work with a negative or stressed mindset. Some more advice on academics is to talk to your guidance counselor, teachers, and Brian Ross though it may seem scary or hard they are all extremely helpful and will be there throughout the most challenging part of highschool. Last thing on school classes would be do not overwork yourself, remember to take time for yourself and find the balance between work, play, and self care.
The college application process is not easy at all. It may seem like all you have to do is apply and send in a couple short essays and you're done-nope nope nope. My college application process started in September (granted I started late which you should not do), and ended last week (Late April). Applying to college is not just about applications for schools its about writing essays, contacting schools, contacting financial aid, bargaining with financial aid, applying to scholarships, visiting schools, and sooo much more. My main advice for this is to honestly just be persistent, apply to things early know your worth as an educated talented dreyfoos student, stay organized, and TRUST THE PROCESS EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT IN THE END IF YOU BELIEVE IN YOURSELF.
Some general life advice that I have learned so far (in my 18 years wow) is to practice self-care, know your worth, do not do anything that is life changing or may affect your future for other people, in general do not do anything you don’t feel comfortable doing, the energy you put out into the world is the energy that you receive so try to stay positive, and be confident in your actions, your future, and yourself (both physically and mentally). This letter is very messy but its cause i have so much to say, I love and support you all from afar.
Good luck and I wish you all success!!!
