Falls-Lenox Primary School Newsletter
August 30, 2024
Dear Falls-Lenox Families,
This week, students partcipated in Student Engagement Assemblies where they learned about our PBIS building-wide expectations (Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Kind), and the various student club opportunities available at Falls-Lenox. If your child is interested in signing up for Terrific Kids, the sign-up link is below! We also had our first practice fire drill this week and our students did an excellent job.
Next week, students will be begin taking the Map Test (Map stands for Measure of Academic Progress) for Reading, with Math being adminstered the following week. Students take the Map Test on a Chromebook, and the assessment measures both achievement and growth and provides teachers with detailed information that they use to inform instruction. The Map Test is administered three times per year (fall, winter, spring) and reports will be emailed home to families. Teachers will also be administering the AIMS Web Foundational Reading Diagnostic Assessment (first graders) and the D.R.A. (Developmental Reading Assessment - 2nd and 3rd graders). These reading assessments are administered one-on-one with each child and allow the teacher to observe the child reading and note areas of strength and need.
Just a friendly reminder that if you are dropping off your child in the morning, the side door opens at 7:35 and closes at 7:55 a.m. If you are dropping off your child after 7:55 a.m., please drop off in the front of the building. Also, if you child will be eating breakfast at school, please drop him/her off by 7:45 a.m. to allow time to eat. We ask that all students are in their classrooms and ready to start learning by 8:00 a.m.! If there is a change to your child's afternoon transportation, please send your child to school with a hand written note (we do not accept e-mails, faxes, or phone calls for changes in transportation).
If at any time you have questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact our main office at (440) 427-6400.

Beginning of the Year Book:
One of our goals at FL, is to provide students with opportunities to explore and investigate areas of their interest. We believe that learning often begins with questions, and that allowing students to research their questions, empowers them in their learning! Check out our beginning of the year book below. All classes will be reading this story and recording things they "wonder"! You may ask your child at home, what is something they wonder about and want to learn more about?
After classes read the book, students developed their own BIG, BIG Questions and wonderings. These pictures are on display throughout the school! See below for some examples!

This summer our staff lounge underwent a relocation and refresh to establish a warm and functonal environment for our teaching and support personnel. To fulfill this goal, the FLECC PTA launched a Sponsor a Seat fundraiser and raised $2,778.61 for new furniture and amenities. Our staff is greatly appreciative of their new space and this is a testament to the invaluable support from our PTA members and our community. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our donors for making this possible! See pictures of the lounge enhancement below.
