We are also administering the Dyslexia Screener using the AIMSWeb Plus Assessment to all first through third graders next week.  A letter was emailed home to families this week wiht additional details.

With the help of our amazing FLECC PTA, we are gearing up for Staff Appreciation Week, which is the week of May 6th.  We are having a spirit week that week, which inlcudes theme dress-up days and simple ideas for how you can get your child involved in showing appreciation.  Please see the graphic in the PTA section of the newsletter below.  There is also a link below to submit a "Staff Shout-Out"!   Please consider submitting a shout out for staff appreciation week!  I read the shout outs monthly at our staff meetings.

We are also looking forward to the Baldwin-Wallace sponsored family STEM Night on Monday, May 6th from 6-7 p.m.  If you plan to attend, please register for the event below, so that we can get an idea of how many families will be attending.

Lastly, in collaboration with FLECC PTA, we are planning for Field Day, which will be held on Friday, May 31st.  Mrs. Canacci, our art teacher, will be leading an art station on this day, and we are looking for paint donations.  If you would like to donate a bottle of paint, please see the Amazon Wish List below:  https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/WCOT3HX6YHPZ?ref_=wl_share

Looking Ahead:

Week of April 29th - Dyslexia screening initiative, is scheduled for this spring and targets all students in grades one through three. Testing is slated to start during the week of April 29th.  The assessment procedure will be communicated to families to keep parents informed throughout the screening process. We have created a matrix that is a valuable resource, ensuring transparency and clarity at every stage of the assessment journey.  These tests' results, teacher observations, and classroom assessments help guide instruction and learning support. Students will be given the AimsWebPlus Reading Assessment screener. We will use this screening tool to assess your child’s reading skills.   Parent communication was emailed out this week.

May 6th - Staff Appreciation Week - See Below for Details!

2024 Staff Appreciation Week

FLECC PTA's staff appreciation week committee has been hard at work planning this year's event. We will be celebrating our staff May 6-10 with our "School is an Adventure" road trip/adventure theme. We are looking for volunteers to assist with different activities as well as donations to round out the week. If you are interested please refer to the SignUp Genius links below:

Additionally, we're hoping to get our students involved in the week as well (see attached flyer). Families may participate in as many or few activities as they'd like.

We're going to start the week by wearing our teacher's favorite color on Monday; on Tuesday you can email staff members a video or message from your student saying thank you; Wednesday is "Destination: THANK YOU!" where students can wear a favorite destination theme shirt; Thursday is for flowers (students can bring in fresh, silk or drawn flowers) for staff members; and Friday will be our staff souvenir shop where students bring in a classroom supply for their room. Classroom specific information can be found here, along with detail of each day's activity: 2024 FLECC staff appreciation week

If you have any questions, please send us a message at fallslenoxecc@gmail.com

THANK YOU!

Thank you to all families who participated in any of our Chuck E. Cheese Dine & Donate dates. This was a new fundraiser for us this year and I'm pleased to share that we were able to raise $1,429.74 total. This in combination with our Raise Craze fundraiser will allow our PTA unit to not need to host a Spring fundraiser. We'll be bringing back Raise Craze again in the Fall with a few modifications -- stay tuned until next year for an update.

Staff Shout Outs

Is there a staff member that has made a positive impact in your child's life?  Please take a moment to say 'thank you' by submitting a Staff Shout Out!  Shout Outs will be shared with the staff member.  Click HERE to submit a shout out!

1st Graders Celebrated Arbor Day Today with Mayor Graven by planting a tree!

"In 1872, a man by the name of J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees. This holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than one million trees in Nebraska, and is now celebrated all over the world."
