For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a dataset about endangered languages.
I decided to work with this dataset because I have always been interested in languages and the idea of an "endangered language" fascinates me.
In my visualization, the data is represented as dots that arc upwards based on their endangerment. I only had time to work with the data for "severely endangered languages," so the full dataset is not represented.
To interact with the visualization, try hovering over the dots to see the name of the language.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is how many languages there are right under our noses that we don't even realize exist because they aren't commonly spoken.
Something I still wonder about is if the number of endangered languages will increase over time, or if they will simply go extinct.
The most challenging moment of this project was all of the coding.
If I had more time, I would like to add more categories of languages (vulnerable, critically endangered, etc.)
My proudest moment during this project was when I got my "mild" version to work.
