for my final data visualization project, I chose to work with p5.js and mappa to create a visual representation of how the number of natural disasters changed over time. I used the data set, "Climate Disasters Around The World" because it fit the needs of my project perfectly.
in my visualization, the data is represented as multiple dots in different colors, red being the most disasters (between 41 and 50 that year) and light pink being the least (0 disasters that year).
to interact with the visualization, try clicking on the various buttons to increase and decrease the years. You can also hover over the colored dots to get the number of natural disasters for that year and see what country you're looking at.

one interesting thing I noticed during this project is how p5.js often has built-in code that helps make it easier to achieve your goals. For example, p5.js already provides various colors, so instead of putting the hex code in, you can simply type "red" or "blue".
something I still wonder about is what I would do if I had more time. This is my medium version with some spicy sprinkled in, so I would need to figure out some new things to work on and improve. I would most likely work on filtering specific types of natural disasters for specificity and more detail including floods, fires, etc.
the most challenging moment of this project was my time management. I was very focused on going above and beyond the minimum requirements and set some goals that weren't exactly feasible for the period we had to work on this project. In the end, I had to go back and edit my plan multiple times to better suit our project.
my proudest moment during this project was when I finally got my code to work! It's a very cliche and basic response, but seeing everything come together without red exclamation points and yellow highlights was the most satisfying thing that could have happened.
