For my final data visualization project, I chose to work with a dataset depicting the type, and amount of climate disasters in a country per year.
I decided to work with this dataset because at the time, I was in a Model UN committee specializing on climate change, so this topic was fresh in my mind.
In my visualization, the data is represented as dots of various sizes on each country in the world containing data for the filters selected.
To interact with the visualization, try using the slider to change the year being viewed, and click the dropdown to change the type of disaster.
One interesting thing I noticed during this project is, on an average, the total disaster amount grew from the earliest year to the most recent.
Something I still wonder about is the connection of the disaster amount to climate change and vulnerable areas.
The most challenging moment of this project was the tedious data cleanup I had to do for each of the types of disasters.
If I had more time, I would like to highlight the country with varying levels of color, instead of different sized circles.
My proudest moment during this project was when everything came together, and my dropdown worked after a lot of debugging.
