Syllabus

The course syllabus is a document that outlines the student expectations, course activities, grading scale and other essential pieces of information for a student to prepare to enter into and participate in a course. Course syllabi represent an “agreement” between the faculty member and each student.

All faculty members are required to develop a syllabus using the NICC syllabus template for each course taught each semester. NICC utilizes the Simple Syllabus platform to assist with the development of your course syllabi. The platform is immediately accessible in your course by clicking Syllabus on the Brightspace Navigation Bar.

The current syllabus template is pre-loaded in Simple Syllabus and will appear with locked required fields and editable fields for you to add your course information and requirements.

Content previously created by faculty members is automatically carried forward each term in Simple Syllabus and can be added to your new syllabus by a few simple clicks, eliminating the need for laborious copy and paste.

Special Note: Grades should be reflective of student achievement versus attendance. Grading can include participation points, activities, quizzes, etc., that impact a student’s grade when class is missed. NICC does not have a mandatory attendance policy. It is important to provide the same grading practices for all students, and students should be made aware of this information at the beginning of the term.
