Faculty will work a minimum of a 35 hour work week engaged in meeting the roles and responsibilities related to teaching, scholarship and service, outlined in your job descriptions over the specified number of contract days for the academic year. The Dean will work with the faculty member to ensure a “reasonable” work day with the goal of a ten hour minimum between work day assignments. The established work day is based upon programming to meet student needs. Faculty are required to complete scheduled activities (teaching, advising, meetings) on work days, and attend the College scheduled activities on the remaining 13 professional development days in their contract.
The role of the faculty member is professional in nature. Upon completion of scheduled/mandatory activities, the faculty member has the autonomy to determine the location to do their most efficient work and allows them the flexibility to network with high school faculty, business and industry off campus to continue to strengthen your program. Due to nature of the faculty schedule, it is critical that faculty post the office hours available to students, and work with the dean regarding off campus schedules and provide contact information if the department needs to reach you.
Full-time faculty are required to schedule five office hours per week that they are available to students. Part-time regular and adjunct faculty are required to schedule two office hours per week to be available for students. Scheduled office hours should be posted in the class syllabus with the days, times, locations, and process for scheduling (when applicable). The faculty contact information should be included. In addition, full-time faculty are required to post their office hour information on their office doors.
