The College is required by law to abide by rules regarding FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). This law assures students access to their education records and protects such individuals’ rights to privacy by limiting the transferability of their records without their consent. FERPA protects the student’s personal identifiable information. Faculty are restricted from talking with others about a student’s attendance, grade, etc., except for NICC school officials who are acting on behalf of the College to work with the student to carry out education studies. Read through the FERPA guidelines (https://www.nicc.edu/about/consumer-information/ferpa/), and review the policy. If you have a specific concern or question, contact the campus Registrar for clarification.
Students may elect to fill out a Request to Release Information form that will give permission for the college to release certain information to designated individuals outside of the college community. Request to Release Information forms can be obtained in the Registrar’s Office. If you receive a request for information for individuals outside of the college community, contact the Registrar’s Office to confirm if there is a release on file and the type of information that can be released.
