Visitors and/or invited guests are only allowed in classrooms during instruction with the advanced, express permission of the department dean. If the department dean is not available, the visitor should contact the Vice President of Teaching and Learning.
People who are not enrolled in a course and who are not there as a campus visitor or invited guest are not allowed to attend class. This includes children, friends, spouses, etc. In order to ensure the safety and security of children and to safeguard the educational and work environment of the college, no employee, student, visitor, or invited guest may leave a child unattended. This includes campus buildings, campus grounds, or in vehicles in the college parking lots. Nor shall a child be left with a college employee, unless that employee is supervising the child in an authorized capacity for a program or activity in which the child is enrolled. Children are not permitted to be visitors in college classes, even if accompanied by an adult.
Definitions
Classroom: Any educational environment be it a physical classroom, lab, clinical or externship site, or online space.
Classroom visitors: A classroom visitor is someone who is not currently affiliated with the college or enrolled in the particular section of class they are visiting. Classroom visitors could include prospective student tours, community members, or educational groups who are touring the campus.
Classroom invited guests: An invited guest is someone who is not currently affiliated with the college or enrolled in the particular class they are visiting; but is invited by the faculty and approved by the department dean to participate in class for the purpose of student educational enrichment. Invited guests could include guest speakers or panelists.
Exceptions
Deans or their designee will have access to the classroom for purposes of observation and evaluation of faculty.
A personal assistant may be present in the classroom to support a student with reasonable accommodations approved by Accessiblity Services and in accordance with the ADA.
