I want to celebrate Erin Hathcock fighting and making a miraculous turnaround in her recovery! Not only was she able to get off her ventilator but she was also moved off the ICU floor! She has a lot of work left to fully recover - but she's definitely on her way!
Dear Adams' Fam!!
Evaluations are underway! PLEASE make sure you read through the helpful hints located within this document to help you be the best teacher you can be for your students. I am leaving both written and typed feedback for you teachers - if you do not know how to check your TalenEd electronic feedback - ask me! I definitely want you to see what I am putting in there. Feedback is a two way street - I am open to your feedback so feel free to leave some for me too!
Also, I have had a few teachers reach out to me to go observe in other classrooms, but I would love to have more - so let me know and we will make it happen. I'm telling you, we have some awesome things going on out there and you gotta see it!
Give yourself a Booster Shot of Kagan - challenge yourself to try out a new Kagan structure you haven't tried yet and put it into your lesson plans so you'll make sure you don't forget! Remember just asking your students to talk to their shoulder partner or face partner is NOT Kagan - a Timed, Pair, Share IS Kagan - there has to be structure to it, to make it Kagan. We want to ensure PIES - quiz yourself do you remember what it stands for?!
P - Positive Interdependence
I - Individual Accountability
E - Equal Participation
S - Simultaneous Interaction
So, unless it's a Kagan structure - you probably don't have PIES going on - next time you hear yourself say, "tell your partner..." stop yourself and think what Kagan structure you can use instead!
Adams team - We got this!
Stephanie 🐯🧡

**The Arizona Department of Education is requiring an AZELLA Stand Alone Field Test (SAFT) of all English learner students at all grade levels (1-12) this fall. This special test administration is not optional. SAFT testing will begin October 11th.
The testing window for Adams is 11/11/2021-11/15/2021 .
Sonnia and Lirio will be administering this test to students, so they will not be available for classroom support until testing is completed.

Counselor Corner
We have been focusing on attendance like crazy this week. We will be giving you information about our attendance protocol next week. This will help us determine which students we can help support through our attendance groups. The more often students come (and on time) the more they can learn and grow!
Also, the Counselor Classroom Lesson sign up sheet has been sent! If you haven't done so yet, please sign up for a time slot so we can come teach your students some social emotional lessons next month!

Let's build our Adams community by going to an ASU game together!!! Thank you again to Laura Braidi's awesome connections - we have got tickets galore to go to the 9/25 ASU football game! Just sign up to get your voucher for 4 tickets here! I think we need to get a staff tailgate going on! Anyone want to put that together?! Sunshine committee maybe?! Love going to the ASU games - I'm hoping we can get some of our students' families out there too - I used to go to the ASU games as a kid and loved it!
Our September AVID focus of the month is Quickwrites! I love using quickwrites with adults and children alike because of the fact that it forces students to think as they write - it also gives younger students the practice of writing their thoughts on paper - not copying thoughts or text. It is also a great way to use formative assessment in your room as you begin or end a lesson! Please read more about quickwrites to the right.➡
Thank you again to Mr. Estes, Mr. Walker, Ms. Endischee, & Ms. Ramsey for taking on extra students when we didn't have enough coverage. ALSO - thank you to our staff who have been helping us cover in the cafeteria and on the playground when we've been short there too!
Communication is Key - as an adult learner I know I like to know exactly what is expected of me and how much time will be spent doing a particular activity. Your students may not be able to voice this, but they feel the same way. So let them know - Post a timer and clearly write the steps they are to follow and of course their learning target for the current activity they are working on. This communication is easy to do on classroomscreen.com - I kinda feel like a commercial right now - but it really does make a difference when kids have simple directions like 1. read the text 2. underline the key words 3. highlight the main idea 4. stand at the back of the room with your notes when you are done with 1-3
These fake directions just took me about 30 seconds to type - But those 30 seconds will save you so much time and headaches!
Does this make you miss field trips - nope!
