We have some early data in on the Benchmark assessments from School City and we are seeing A LOT of growth from the beginning of the year! YAY US!!!!!
Dear Adams' Fam!!
😍 At the beginning of the school year we focused a lot on our why. Our why as a school is to Inspire, Empower, Succeed. Your personal why is hopefully hanging on or near your door. I love reading these as I go through classrooms. Don't forget to remind yourselves of your why and share it with your students! I know this year isn't the back to normal we were hoping for - but we are still seeing growth in our students and making a difference for them. This is my why - this is why I love being at Adams, I know our students deeply depend on our skills, our love, and our determination to ensure their success. We can and are making a difference and I thank you all for what you do to help our kids grow up to be successful members of society. I hope you are as proud as I am to be a part of Adams!

Counselor Corner
We have started or are starting quite a few things this week and next:
A new lunch procedure has been sent to all teachers and students are working at earning a green card each day in the cafeteria to hopefully win the Golden Lunchbox on Fridays. Please remind your students of this! Lunchroom Procedures
Grief groups and Friendship groups started this week and have been going well so far. Thank you for your support with your students' social emotional learning!
Tardy groups will be starting next week. You should have received an email regarding which student and what time these groups are if you have students selected to attend.
And Special Visits
On Tuesday! Lara Ellington one of our School Board members rescheduled and will be here 1/25/22 from 12-1pm. We are going to pop into a couple of classrooms and I have already spoken to those teachers that we are planning to visit - if you see us walking around please give her a warm welcome! Here is the link to our governing board page - she is the third one down.
The kindness program that our counselors presented on Tuesday was a collaboration with the Stand for Children organization. The plan is to continue to hold similar events on a monthly basis to support our students and families!
Our January AVID Strategy of the month is Socratic Methods
To the right here ➡I have included a link to a google folder that I made that has some helpful resources about Socratic Methods. If you google Socratic Seminar or Philosophical Chairs you'll also find many great resources. One of the best resources is also to log onto MyAVID.org - each of you has an account, if you need help with accessing that Renee Geyer can help you. Once in My AVID go to Core Strategies you'll find different strategies and the resources in the "Learn More" buttons.
Once again thank you to all of the people who have helped to cover all of our open spots this week - it's been A LOT and your help has been immensely appreciated!!!!
How to Combat the Rate of Forgetting - I don't know if you remember (do you see what I did there) but a few years back I shared this video about the rate of forgetting - which often leads to teachers saying, "I taught that how do they not remember?!" Well to combat that, as an AVID school we use focused notes - what makes them powerful is making sure you provide opportunities for students to revisit those notes and interact with them!
Hope this puts a smile on your face! 😍
