Thursday, April 3rd, Minot North High School competed in its first WDA.
With six different groups starring and making it to state, Minot North’s Freshman and Symphonic Choir would call the day a success!
This was Minot North’s first year competing as an individual school despite sharing the same choir director with Minot High School, O. Lindsay Kerzmann. With the new school, many adjustments have been made to the music department: orchestra, band, and choir. In previous years leading up to the split of schools, this department didn’t have to worry about splitting earlier due to the arrangement of the courses and the number of instructors. Because of this, these groups have never competed separately before, a new feeling for everyone, yet each school felt united under one choir director and presented no hostility in competition.
The choir students had a long day: they left Minot at 6:15 AM and did not get home until 8:30. During the day, the students performed their solos, duets, trios, and ensembles, all hoping to win a star and be the best in their category. While this may seem easy to many, it is quite difficult; stars are given to only a third of the performances a judge sees. In the end, six groups starred and will perform at the state level on April 25 in Jamestown!
