Valentine's Day Survey
Valentine’s Day has long been a holiday centered around love, romance, and celebrating special people in our lives, but how do people actually feel about the holiday? A survey was released to the Minot North High School students documenting their own experiences and emotions towards Valentine’s Day.
The first and probably most important question on the survey was, “How much do people actually enjoy the holiday?” 40.5% of people responded saying they neither liked nor disliked Valentine’s Day, with 5.2% saying they absolutely love the holiday and 16.4% of people saying they hate it. A potential reason for people to dislike it is also because the results showed 22.7% of people have had a bad or unfortunate experience on Valentine’s Day that relates to the holiday meaning, breakup, rejection, or anything related to heartbreak.
This next question is something many people dream about, “Have you ever received a secret admirer note?” 40 students who took the survey have received a secret admirer note in their lifetime. Sadly out of those students, 8 of them reported that the notes they had gotten were a prank.
Finally, the last question on the survey was a simple one, “Do you have plans for Valentine’s Day?” 44% of people responded that they do have plans for Valentine’s Day with a significant other or loved one.
This survey seems to reveal that Valentine’s Day is not as widely embraced and enjoyed as people seem to think and that many people seem to have very middling opinions about the day itself.
