A look into the Jesters/Knights in the Round
By Kendall Bice
This week, one club stood out from the rest, which is Jesters and Knights of the Round, a club that is mainly for theater students and members of the National Thespian Society.
Jesters/Knights of the Round is described as a place for anyone to be themselves or an outlet for them. They focus on supporting each other, their love to get better in the theater world communicating, and striving to be better. According to some of the members in the group, it's not only about theater and putting on performances but also to build a family, and to grow as a community.
“I love to interact with people, and see people get into it,” says club president Ashlyn Brockhoff.
Brockhoff is in charge of overseeing what happens, including running showcase auditions, producing the Thespian Showcase, and even helping Mr. Michels run the meetings. One of her key focuses is to get the word out about theater, and even started sending newsletters out to keep everyone in the loop.
She loves to see everyone interact with each other, and overall see people really getting into it. She inspires to grow the club, and to spread the love.
She's been a part of the club since her sophomore year, which now shes a senior. She had just moved to Minot, and she thought it would be a great way to make some friends.
One of her most cherished moments was when everyone had been stressed out due to having to perform at MCC and little to nothing to perform, but in the end, everyone had come together and performed a great performance. This shows how much power people have when they come together.
“I like to take notes during meetings, because it helps people who aren’t there and it helps me stay organized,” says the secretary Ella Withers.
Withers is assigned to make sure everyone has their things put together and overall keeping things organized so things run smoothly. Her goals are to make sure a Thespian can become a Thespian and everyone can become friends. She wishes to stay on top of her work due to falling behind in hours and to just become even more organized.
She enjoys taking her notes and tries to make sure everyone has help if needed. She's always been a big fan of theater, and wishes to make sure people had the same help that she did.
One of her most memorable moments was when she had her induction because she didn’t know what was going to happen, but then she got to meet her thespian family and no one was judgmental
For Ashlyn and the rest of the members, the club is more than just putting on a show, it's about building a family where everyone feels loved, seen, and supported. The Jesters/Knights of the Round strive to support other theaters and to be ecos for each other, they are ready to continue growing and spreading the magic of theater to anyone who wants to join.
