Our time at Minot North is something that has been the greatest for teachers and students, with the new switch to a brand-new school having one of the best first graduating classes of the brand-new Minot North High School. With the ever-coming end, I think everyone who has been given the opportunity to be at Minot North and enjoy the school is able to agree with the fact that the sentinels are far better than the Minot Magicans.
This is something you either can't wait for or are dreading, with our last week before finals. We went over our lives, with all the awards and events that our school participated in with our seniors. Congratulating them on their high school careers and what they have accomplished, but everyone knows that not everyone is there for the real stuff; they are there for the fun of it. Having fake Duck Academy awards, giving away prizes, and more. Like enjoying fun with senior pranks, even if they go too far.
With the end of our senior year coming very close, I hope everyone who is graduating or not has a great future and all become what success means to them. Have a great rest of your lives.
Lastly, for mental struggles as a freshman, all you need to do is not care what others think about you and what you really want to do for yourself, and don’t succumb to peer pressure. Doing things you shouldn't be it will not be worth it to your future. After all your high school is when you are a kid, do stuff that makes you happy and doesn't ruin your future.
Ever since freshman year, you start to notice things as you go through the year. Things you wish you started sooner, or even things to choose to make sure your high school journey is the best you've had, not something you hated, with the many things that I have personally observed and decided to try and connect and use in the future, making life easier and less stressful. I would like to call all of this advice something you can use to your advantage.
When it comes to classes, I recommend talking to people who are older than you, who have taken the classes, and who they recommend. It will help you through the entire year; having a teacher you hate will make you despise your work. Make sure you connect your schedule to yourself, and don't take classes just to be with your friends. Take classes where you want your skills to improve. Also, a thing for sophomores is to take your american government and economics in junior year to be sure you will graduate your senior year or even graduate early if you decide you want to.
Another segment you might have written about in the past was your hobbies, what you did as a kid, and what you enjoyed doing. For me, I had the same hobbies and things that I do for fun now as I did then. Like riding motorcycles, working on cars, playing video games with friends, and, even in the summer, having fun at the lake with my family. As a kid, I also told my future self to secure a great job and not to think about what others think about me. Which is a thing I held to my word, not letting anyone bother me or my thoughts. Also, getting a great job to afford my lifestyle that I will be running strong on for four years now.
Back in our younger years, middle school or maybe even elementary school, we all might remember writing that letter to our future selves. The one that describes ourselves in the future and past. What is going on in our lives: challenges, problems, current events, curricula, and more? Some people held deep secrets in them that they would never tell someone else about. No matter what it was or what you wanted to improve on, everyone compares their present life to their past, and this is the ultimate way to do so.
In my letter, although I was not a great writer at the time, I was able to decipher my hieroglyphics. I had talked about my fears, like heights or even people bothering me in school. Everyone had problems that they wanted to overcome or even things to do. For instance, my dad and I were going to build a cabin up at our lake, and we never got around to it because of problems with life. There are promises you make to yourself and dreams you wish to come true, but you may not accomplish them all.
Push yourself out there for others to see the kind of person you are. Join clubs, whether it's your last year in high school or your first. It is guaranteed you will either learn something, connect with somebody, or even go to the competition. Getting your name out there for businesses and schools to see will serve you well in your future, no matter what you do. Every aspect of your future has a place in a club that is available to you.
It's your senior year, and you have spent time doing random clubs throughout your high school career. Maybe you rarely showed up to them, or did not participate whatsoever. Even if you do not plan on going to college, you can still benefit from almost every club in multiple different ways. As a writer, from personal experience, I've noticed that the few clubs I've been in have benefited me substantially, whether you are looking for a job in the future or expanding your knowledge about a topic such as business, marketing, worship, or even strengthening your body and mind.
You will meet people who are like you, have participated in, and have vast knowledge of things that they could help you with, and push you closer to the future you want. Join all clubs that you can relate to your future. - Ex. If you want to learn more trades, join SkillsUSA to push you closer to your goals. “I've gone to many competitions and have won many scholarships, if I decide to go to a technical college.” So go out and join that club that will benefit you for the rest of your life.
Getting selected to be on a court seemed almost impossible; just 5 days before prom happens, you start wondering what to do. Who do you wanna go with? What are you wearing? Where do you get it? All just within five days, you have practice, competitions and seem like you have no time. It forces you into a situation where you have to make ends meet, thankful for the people at shops that understand your situation helping you with tailor and everything. Maybe you even forced or convinced your freinds to go with to the actual prom party.
Every year, skipping and not going to any of the school parties like prom, homecoming, and maybe even your eighth-grade grad dance. As a person who never participates in school parties, when you heard that there was voting for prom court, you decided not to participate in the voting and had no idea who could end up on the court. The court was posted for everyone to view just 5 days prior to the dance. You get an email in congratulating you that you have been selected.
The actual sense of being on a court might be overglorified by some. It is rather easy; you wait for a long time to walk down the court with everyone, just to stand there and take pictures, then wait for the annoucing of the king, happy that it isn’t you. While waiting for everyone to finish their photos, you quickly make your way to your family and leave almost instantly after talking to a couple of people. The dance starts an hour later; you meet up with your friends and make memories that night that will last a lifetime. If you are a younger high schooler and reading this, I encourage you, no matter who you are, go out and have fun; make those memories no matter what.
Over the span of the last five years since covid began, there have been over seven million deaths worldwide, and in Minot alone, a statistic has been taken that there have been two hundred and fifty-one deaths from covid in Minot alone. At our school, we took much time out of school. While working on school work from home, most of us do not go to the Zoom meetings or do any of the work. The entirety of our time was spent at home, staying safe from the virus. Some schools had such horrible performances from children not being able to stay focused on their schoolwork instead of being able to do whatever they wanted.
Throughout Elementary, middle, and high school, we have experienced many world tragedies. Most of us from North Dakota watched from our home screens, watching videos of wars and Riots, never experiencing them hands-on. One hands-on thing was the COVID-19 Epidemic. Across the world, spreading like wildfire, COVID-19 thrashed through communities and halted schools where they stood.
After the long period out of school, coming back seemed weird. Everyone looked different, and all had different tones. The school systems changed, and everything now focused on staying clean with many different disensectents. With all of the new technology in the online world, schools have adapted it to be used as normal. Colleges and high schools now have online classes you can take even if you don’t go to the school daily. COVID was a hard tail for everyone, but with it all dying off, you will sometime remember that it started over 5 years ago now.
Many Seniors and teachers always bring up the topic of senioritis at the beginning of the year as a joke, but is it actually a thing? People in their senior year have made it all the way through and usually only have a few more credits they need to graduate. Some go for excellence, to prepare for the pursuit of further education and some people are just trying to get through. The people who do the bare minimum, forget to set their alarms and wake up late for school. People have started to class this as Senioritis, is it really a thing or are people just making excuses?
A few interviews with a chunk of Seniors within the school have answered two questions, “Do you think senioritis is real?, and Why do you think it is real? Most of them instantly went to the saying “I do and I don’t.” They go along with the approach of saying that they have a hard time having the motivation to do things that seem pointless to their future and lives. Although we go through school trying our best to be ready for our future, after so many years of being in school, the last one seems so easy to many that they don't even want to do it.
Feeling like you're in between, always helping with something or someone that isn't your own. That's how it is for some seniors at north. If you play sports, work in trade departments, or even enjoy clubs. Being split between two schools makes it difficult for kids to realize who they are benefiting and makes their lives so much more complicated. Being a senior at Minot North’s new high school opens up great opportunities for all, but the senior class is a part of helping the school along with its process of becoming better for everyone. It leads some people to believe that they shouldn't be the ones choosing since they will not be there next year.
Some seniors are a part of creating new artwork around the school, some trade classes build tables and appliances for classrooms, choosing permanent names, and some create websites and help teachers with their work. Having some sports teams working together with the same coaches from Minot High brings everyone together back into what feels like one high school team. Creating that sense of not being a part of one team, benefiting what should feel like the superior side for most.
No matter what you want to do, what you want to get done, or what you have coming for you, success comes from happiness. If you're not happy in your life with your decisions, you may need to break free, take that trip, quit that job and become whatever you need to be, to create the best life for you. Unless, of course, you have people you take care of. I hate to say it but, you can't just up and leave. Over time create that life of purpose and happiness.
As we near the end of high school, you may be wondering and stressing about what you are going to do for the rest of your life, whether you are going to school for a business degree or a trade. Maybe you aren't even going to school, and you have no idea what you want to do. Sometimes, you wonder, "Am I successful?"
Everyone has a different view of success. The media and people around you have probably always said that to become successful, you have to be rich. But it comes down to more than that. Some people become successful in their lives by raising a family, preparing for their future, or traveling the world. It all comes down to you. You are the person who will decide your future and all it entails.

Every day, you probably look at that old-school clock hung on the wall. Possibly, your teacher placed it in the back of the room to see who would turn their head every day seeing the time to know when they get to leave. Or, maybe, your teacher didn't care and put it right at the front. Have you ever thought of all the minutes that you countdown? They have been adding, up over the years, to about one and a half million minutes passed during the school year. So, that period every day of school where you are counting down the last five minutes of your class, prepping to go home, and getting to have the relief of getting through another school day, are almost over.
Our senior year is here and almost over already; these last four years went by in a blur and may seem like they never even happened. But having spent thousands of hours and hundreds of days in school. Have you ever thought about the actual time that has been put in the school year? Whether you showed up or not, in this school, you have spent over a thousand and ninety-six (1,096) days in the school year. It is crazy to think about when you only get about three hundred and twenty (320) of those days on the weekend that you may or may not spend on homework.
Maybe, you are counting down the days till summer, getting a total of three hundred and sixty-four (364) days of summer. We have had almost a year of getting to either have fun going to the lake or staying up at night. Have those late nights at the fair with the people you enjoy, or maybe you are a person who is prepping for college or the future life. Getting hard at it wherever you work, even maybe taking more schooling. Maybe, networking with people will boost your capabilities for your self in the workforce scene.
On the topic of things you won't want to miss, our Graduation. May 25 is very important to all seniors because it is THE date for seniors. The date you finally get to be relieved of that high school graduation anxiety. Wanting to get done and be an adult is a reality for all, hopefully, you don't miss it. Otherwise, everyone is wondering probably, “What should I do after high school?”. Everyone goes different ways, whether your choice is college, trade school, or straight into the workforce. No matter our paths, hopefully, we will all still be able to stay connected with the people that will be engraved in our brains for the rest of our lives. One day, we might tell these stories to new family and friends and share the great times we had in Minot.
It’s that time of the year. Seniors, we are coming to an end, the last semester of our high school career. There are roughly one hundred days left of our time here in Minot Public Schools. With that, you may wonder, "How could I get some things done that I haven't had the time or guts to do?" You could go to your last high school prom on March 29 or join a team you have yet to be a part of, like track, golf, or baseball. You won't want to think back on high school and think that you missed out on something that others got to enjoy just like you also could.
