A New Stage, A New Chapter: Minot North’s Theater Family Takes on The Crucible’s Fresh Start
By Kendall Bice
For the cast and crew of “The Crucible”, stepping onto the new stage of Minot North High School is like stepping into a whole new world. They are filled with excitement, and nervous energy as they are preparing to perform on a new stage for the years to come. It's a new chapter for the theater family, but nothing they can't overcome.
“I hope they feel the power, and get the meaning of the show,” says Ella Withers, who plays Abigail Williams in the play.
Ella Withers is a junior at Minot North, Ella has been involved in the theater world for years and has performed on many stages, but the new auditorium brings a mix of emotions.
Though she is excited, the auditorium has potential, but still needs some work. Ella appreciates the catwalk, which makes her feel like she's in a whole different world, but there are a few issues. The sound isn’t quite there, and the flooring is also kind of confusing due to not being able to drill or paint the floor, but their team is determined to push through it and make it work.
After reviewing the auditorium, she says the new auditorium sort of affects the way she performs, but hasn’t really thought about it in that way, but it might affect the others due to having new actors. Everyone seemed to agree that the people would be most excited about the seating. There is a lot of seating, and you wouldn't expect a place like Minot North to fit an auditorium like this.
“Absolutely, lots of more space and airy- it makes me more confident, because I feel like I can fill the room with my character,” says Eleanor Kingsley, who plays Elizabeth Proctor reviewing how the new theater affects her acting. Eleanor is excited by the idea of creating an impact on the audience, hoping for gasps or even being surprised. She compares the theater to the one she was in her ninth-grade year, but definitely likes this one compared to the MCC stage. She wasn’t a fan of MCC’s. The spacious new theater almost makes her feel like she’s performing something grand, even though the production is sort of small. It’s clear that while there are some hurdles to overcome, the new stage at Minot North is inspiring the cast to think bigger and embrace the possibilities of this fresh space.
