Full Year Long Course
The intermediate course provides students an introduction to the basic building materials, components, and methods of residential construction. It is designed to give students basic entry level skills in construction and related trades along with an overview of the career opportunities available. Emphasis is placed on safety and the proper use of both hand and power tools. The construction of a utility Shed will the activity for the class. The curriculum is aligned with the Modern Carpenty Book by Wagner Smith and Huth.

Identify various building materials and their proper use in construction trades.
Describe the fasteners and adhesives used in construction work and explain their uses.
Demonstrate the proper use and safety procedures associated with hand and power tools used in the construction trades.
Estimate the quantity of materials required for building projects.
Read and interpret plans, elevations, schedules, sections, and details contained in basic construction drawings.
Practice basic skills and knowledge in the fields of carpentry.
