Unit 13: Exterior Wall Framing (2 Weeks)
In this unit students will be able to identify and describe how each part of the exterior wall is framed. Students will be able to build wall sections including wall plates, corner posts, and door and window framing. Students will demonstrate how to erect, straighten, and plumb an exterior wall. Students should be able to show how to apply wall sheating.
Standard 6.2 Student will be able to identify the components of a wall and ceiling layout.Standard 6.3 Student will be able to describe the procedure for laying out a wood frame wall, including plates, corner posts, door and window openings, partition Ts, bracing, and firestops.Standard 6.4 Student will be able to describe the correct procedure for assembling and erecting an exterior wall.Standard 6.5 Student will be able to identify the common materials and methods used for installing sheathing on walls.Standard 6.6 Student will be able to lay out, assemble, erect, and brace exterior walls for a frame building.
