Unit 1: Wood and Lumber (1/2 Week)

In this unit student should be able to name the parts of a tree trunk asnd state their functions. Student will be able to describe the cutting methods of a log into lumber. Students will be able to define hardwoods and softwoods, give examples, as well as characteristics of each. Students will explain moisture content, seasoning, and be able to describe why wood shrinks, also decribe lumber defects. Lastly the student should be able to state grades and sizes of lumber to compute board measure.
