Course Outline
Semester / Year Long Course
The foundational course will expose students to the tools, materials, and processes commonly found in the construction industry and buildings trades. Students will have the opportunity to layout, and construct, several wood projects while sampling many common trades related careers through hands on activities and projects. Throughout the course emphasis is placed on common employer expectations. Additionally, there was great emphasis placed on safe operational procedures for hand and power tools.
Key Learnings
The students will:
Explore the career opportunities available in the construction trades
Develop an understanding of project layout and material estimation
Practice material measurement techniques
Be exposed to basic wood joinery techniques
Participate in hands on experiences through project creation
Be introduced to hand and power tool safety and operation procedures
Explore platform framing techniques used to build floor, walls, and roofs
Be introduced to electrical theory and basics of AC circuits
