The unit includes three lessons, the first introduces students to many of construction trades, describes apprentice programs, and identifies career opportunities for workers in the building trades. (i.e. Employability Skills, Communication Skills, 21st Century Skills) The second lesson refreshes students with basic English measurement and applied mathematics. The final lesson exposes students to basic layout tools including the tape measure, speed square, chalk line and framing square.
Anticipated Unit Length Based on a 45 Minute Class Period: 1 1/2 Weeks

Standard 6.4 Add, subtract, multiply, and divide fractions.
Standard 6.6 Convert fractions to decimals and decimals to fractions.
